Minmaxing Life

So here I go: my first blog post.

After waiting for as long as I could, I have finally come to the conclusion that I should probably start a blog. You see, I have a strong tendency to minmax my time – hence the title of this blog – so the reason I’ve resisted blogging for so long is because from an outsider’s perspective it seems to take an awful lot of time for a non-obvious return. Don’t get me wrong: I love following interesting blogs but I just couldn’t see what the incentive was for the writer if he didn’t have an inclination to teach or report stuff to begin with.

However, it slowly dawned on me that blogs can be used to publicly archive information and that they also facilitate discussion of a given subject with an extended circle. Both things very attractive to me. Following that, I realized you don’t need to update everyday and people can casually follow your thread with a feed reader. More importantly, you don’t have to “blog for the masses”. You can simply write for yourself and your close circle and this is exactly what I’ll do.

Wilfrid Sheed once said: “If the French were really intelligent, they’d speak English.” Since all my native friends are first class smarty-pants and the non-french are supposedly too smart to learn the language, I’ll be writing in english. I may nevertheless have a few entries in french depending on the topic at hand – like if we’re talking about important, ultra-secret matters such as France taking over the world.

Once it’s all said and done, I’m still a bit worried that blogging will end up sucking too much of my time but I’ll give it a shot and we’ll see were it goes…
